I've used the Akismet module on my Drupal 5 blog and haven't used it's successor, Antispam module, but you might give it a go and see if it helps cut down on the bots and spammers.
I'm enjoying Editra, by the way. I really like the features and direction it is going.
The Drupal part of the site has been fine so far. The problem is on the PHPBB part of the site, on my old site I had made some customizations to the captcha that kept the bots away but since I upgraded to phpbb3.0 I haven't looked at the new captcha system (which by default is better) but is still easily foiled by bots.
It was easy to make the old captcha unbeatable because I could easily change the background to include other messages in it, but the new one appears to be drawn on the fly so it makes it a little tricker to modify.

Hi, Cody.
Have you tried adding the CAPTCHA module?
