Source code repository

Postby Matrixik » Mon Aug 20, 2012 12:52 pm

Hello,

have you considered moving/cloning editra/editra-plugins source code repository to site like github (git) or bitbucket (hg and git)? They are more user-friendly for others to contribute code (pull requests etc.).

Here you can find some examples: https://github.com/ninja-ide/ninja-ide/pulls or https://bitbucket.org/pypy/pypy/pull-requests

Not really, would just add another source of things to manage that I unfortunatly don't have much time for these days. Doesn't seem to add much/any simplicity over current svn repository and sending patch files for anyone that wants to contribute something.

I suggest it because from my point of view it would be more dev friendly.
It will be easier for others to contribute to Editra. Also it should be easier to maintain because all is in one place instead of separate svn repo, google code for issue tracker and wiki, and mail for patches.

I wont push for it, it's only suggestion.

One request: could you clone Editra code to google code, like was previously, or it can't be done automatic?

I created hg (Mercurial) mirrors for Editra and Editra plugins on bitbucket:
https://bitbucket.org/matrixik/editra-ide
https://bitbucket.org/matrixik/editra-ide-plugins
They will sync with svn once per day.
I also tried to make git mirrors on github but I couldn't make repo with proper commit messages so I give up for now.

Also I found nice text about git:
for people who think SVN is good enough ;-)
