base64 decode/encode

Postby reblackwell2 » Sun Aug 12, 2012 5:45 am

In Notepad++ there is a mime plugin that allow for the encoding and decoding of base64 strings. From what I've seen Editra is the closest editor on OSX to Notepad++. Is there a similar plugin that I'm missing or is this something that could be created?

Thanks

currently nothing like that exists but would be very trivial to make a plugin for.

I'm not a developer, but I would be very interested in such a plugin and I bet others would also.

Thanks

If you can describe some use cases / requirements for such a plugin it would make development of it easier.

i.e)
* something that is automatically done during file open/save
* select text and manually request to encode/decode
* ect...

Sonds good. I really like the way it works in Notepad++ which is that you simply select the text you want to take action on and then goto the plugin menu and navigate to the options to encode, encode with Unix EOL, and decode.

The interface mechanism is very simple.

What I use it for is mostly decoding strings in data files where the product I work with encoded the data in a base64 format with unix EOL. Occasionally I'll need to encode something so that I can search for that string and find the lines I need to work with.

Thanks

Sounded like a fun distraction so wrote up a plugin to do this, will try to release sometime this week after a few more tweaks.

Currently supports encoding / decoding text to base16, base32, and base64.

It is released and available for download in the plugin manager as of this morning.

The new plugin is called Enigma. It adds an entry to the text buffer context menu.

Usage:
Select text, right click, then under Enigma submenu select the desired action.
