Handle Large files

Postby reblackwell2 » Mon Jul 30, 2012 11:05 pm

I frequently need to work with large log files that can be over 500 MB. When I tried to open one today With Editra V0.07.08 It quit unexpectedly. with the following dump.

Please enhance the Editra to handle large files or at lease present a more friendly message.

Thanks

Hi,

While there have been some efforts to improve upon this and more on going efforts are planned, Editra is not really really optimized for working with files that are much larger than a few megabytes. Its intended purpose is working with source code files.

I like LogExpert on Windows, on Linux and OSX I usually just use tail or vi for large logs.

Would like to at least add a plugin that can better support this in Editra. There are also some more possibilities with newer versions of Scintilla in wxPython 2.9 and later that better supports memory mapping of files.
