Postby hanger0106 » Fri Jul 09, 2010 1:37 am

I 've use Editra MAC version for quiet a lot of time, but this small problem always exist: I can not save files.

Dialog box1: Save Error , Failed to save file: untitled 3.txt, Error:None
Dialog box2: Reload File? /User/simon/Documents/untitled 3.txt has been modified by another application.
Would you like to reload?

The 2 box always come in pair. And this problem exist for at least one year. Any suggestion?

Hi,

What version of Editra are you using?

Are you using the binary or source install?

I download binary file for MAC,but It always do auto update, so can be different next time

Editra is now 0.5.70,
Platform Info:(darwin, python 2.6, wxMac 2.8.11.0, unicode, wx-assertions-on, SLIG-1.3.29, mac-cg, mac-native-tb

How to reproduce:
step1. type something in blank page
step2. cmd-s , choose a save location

then 2 dialog box pop out:
1.Save Error
Failed to save file: untitle5
Error:None
2.Reload File?
/users/simon/Documents/untitle5 has been modified by another application
Would you like to reload it ?

It does't matter I choose "yes" or "no"; second dialog box simply disappear and nothing changed

Hi,

As mentioned I cannot reproduce this.

What are you typing into the file? That may be the trigger if there is some sort of encoding issue.

p.s) the 'auto-update' just downloads the new installer it doesn't actually do the install. You need to manually run the installer after its been downloaded. I would suggest updating to 0.5.72 as it has some fixes over 0.5.70.

Thanks for your reply.

My OSX is "Tradition Chinese" language setting. I think unicode is my default coding.
Though most of time I just edit simple ascII english, Osx maybe use unicode to encode simple english ?

PS1: It doesn't matter what I type when I save ; just empty file or type "aaa"
PS2: The version is now V0.5.86. Yes it just download to my MAC's desktop; maybe your team can improve this update behavior. for example. launch app automatically when download finished?

Hi,

If you are still having this issue with 0.5.86 then please do the following.

1) Start Editra
2) Goto Preferences and in General->Editor mode set "VERBOSE DEBUG"
3) Open the Editra Log window (View->Shelf->Log)
4) Try to save a file
5) Copy the text out of the log window after the error and post it here. There should be some messages marked with a red '[err]' marker that will be most important.

Thanks,

Cody

Hi,

I will try to fix this for the next release. It seems the operating system is providing an invalid encoding.

In the meantime as a work around you can try to set the preferred encoding in the Preferences dialog (Preferences->General->Files) to one that will work for your files (maybe something like UTF-16 or big5, ect...)

Thanks,

Cody

The work around do the trick for me!, thank you!

There is another small problem: The Osx sometimes jump out a dialog-box "Editra.app request for connection, choose permit or deny" (I am doing my best to translate Chinese into English)

This dialog box show up and disappear so quickly, I never have a chance to click on it!
(My application firewall(preference->security->firewall) already permit Editra )

Hi,

Haven't seen that one before.

Editra creates a socket connection on the local loopback address (locahost) so that it can talk to other instances of Editra that are started. Its ether this or the update checker.

Does this only happen during or shortly after starting Editra or does it happen while your using it?
